Jannik Sinner and Vasek Pospisil will face off for the first time in their careers at the Sofia Open Finals tomorrow. Regardless of the outcome of the match, there will be a first-time champion, making it the sixth time that’s happened this year.

The rising star Sinner, is the favorite after a very strong tournament, playing very impressive tennis, not just for his age, but in general. It’s a bit of a surprise that these players are the final two, but their odds fell within the top 10 coming into the tournament.

The Favorite

The 19-year-old from Italy solidified himself as the favorite after he defeated third seed Alex de Minaur in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The only set he’s dropped at the tournament came in the first set in that match. He beat his semifinal opponent, Adrian Mannarino in a straight-set dominating performance, winning 6-3, 7-5. Sinner now becomes the first player born in 2001 to reach an ATP final.

Sinner’s raw and aggressive power from both his forehand, but more notably his backhand, has just been too much for his opponents this tournament. Surprisingly you would think because of his young age, his stamina would be an asset. But it’s actually showing to be a slight issue. Sinner definitely needs to work on his stamina and physicality to keep his consistency from start to finish during his matches.

Pospisil has Been Unbreakable

Pospisil finds himself in the final after going down a set to his opponent, Richard Gasquet off the bat. The Canadian won 11 games in a row to beat his opponent 6-7(7), 6-2, 6-0. Pospisil’s serve has been his biggest weapon from the start of the tournament. He has only been broken once in the last three matches, including not being broken a single time in his semifinal match.

The indoor hard courts are definitely something that’s favorable to Pospisil’s game. His big serves, and big hits, are perfectly suited for the conditions.

Head-to-Head

As mentioned above, these two have never seen each other before, so there’s really nothing to go off of, other than how they’ve played this tournament thus far. Both players have played very well. Sinner has had a bit of a tougher route over Pospisil to get to the final, which is something to note.

Best Bet

I’m inclined to give the edge to Sinner in this match. Despite what was said earlier about the fatigue and physicality, the level of tennis he’s been playing has been untouchable. In order for him to win the match, there are a couple of things he’ll have to do. If Sinner manages to consistently return Pospisil’s serve, he’s on track to win. Stripping Pospisil of his biggest strength will be key.

Pospisil will look to catch Sinner off guard with his service games. If Sinner doesn’t adapt to a quick transition between defense in terms of receiving a serve, and get onto his offensive game, it might be a closer match than expected.

Best Bet: Sinner in three sets (+300)
