Shakan Pitters and Chad Sugden will throw down at Production Studio in Redditch, Worcestershire Saturday (August 22, 3pm).
The UK-based card will broadcast domestically on Channel 5 Sport. The British light heavyweight title is up for grabs in this 12-round main event. The hardware is presently vacant, so both men will be coming in with a commensurate magnitude of desire as they both vie for the same prize.

The two were initially supposed to fight in late March, coronavirus cancellations then took hold, and now Pitters vs Sugden is finally set to go down.
Chad Sugden’s Familiarity as an Underdog
There are several compelling prizefights that bolster this packed weekend for boxing aficionados. Craig Richards was mapped out as the initially scheduled opponent for Pitters, until Richards had to pull out due to a viral infection.
Sugden, whose last fight was a draw with Richards, was waiting on standby and took the opportunity in lieu of Richards dropping out. The Sugden vs Richards bout in December was supposed to be a tune-up fight, but Sugden wasn’t a passive participant in Richards’ championship narrative.

The content of Sugden’s last fight is also important because it shows a precedent has been set for impressing in a big way as the underdog. In addition to being a notable pro boxer, Sugden has a strong kickboxing resume as well.
He has been a veteran of the K1 Max and Glory kickboxing circuits, which represent some of the biggest international stages in the sport. He also held the ISKA world and intercontinental titles which are of great repute in the kickboxing community. His transition to the sweet science in his early 20’s have clearly paid dividends though.
Shakan Pitters: English Title to British Belt
Conversely, Pitters is unbeaten as a professional boxer. In his last bout, Pitters captured the English light heavyweight title with a comprehensive performance against Dec Spelman in a rematch. Pitters won via unanimous decision in September 2019 and went 2-0 over Spelman overall.
He looks to ascend to the next tier of competition in this British title bout, in what is also his first fight in nearly a year. What was once a seemingly friendly competitive appreciation for one another morphs more into a contentious rivalry dynamic, as it approaches bell time.

Both men have pretty comparable resumes as pros. Each pugilist seems like they went through the same process of incremental growth across the club circuit. And both are reasonably polished pros, ready to compete on a European level, and hopefully wider international level afterward.
Part of Pitters’ efforts during the pandemic was creating his own scorching jerk sauce known as Shak Attack. He brought the heat during lockdown and Pitters looks to bring an even more pronounced level of heat to the ring this weekend.
Pitters vs Sugden Tale of the Tape
13-0 | Record | 11-1-1 |
4 | Knockouts | 4 |
6’6 | Height | 6’0 |
N/A | Reach | N/A |
Dec Spelman, Sam Smith | Significant Wins | Luke Blackledge |
Orthodox | Stance | Orthodox |
With both men having four knockouts respectively, I do not see this one ending in the form of a stoppage. I think Pitters will ultimately start running away with the bout as it approaches the middle-to-later stages of the contest and taking Sugden with a points win.
