- Dustin Johnson holds a five shot lead entering the final round of The Northern Trust
- DJ looking to rebound after letting his 54-hole lead at the PGA Championship slip away two weeks ago
- See the updated live odds at TPC Boston heading into Sunday’s final round
Say what you want about Dustin Johnson’s inability to convert leads into victories at major championships, but he is incredibly resilient at letting misfortunes slide off his back in order for him to taste success quickly thereafter.
Two weeks after letting yet another major championship out of his grasp at Harding Park, DJ has taken a strangehold on The Northern Trust, where he entered the week with +2200 odds to win outright.
In his illustrious career that has led to 21 PGA Tour victories, Johnson has been up by three or more strokes eleven times heading into Sunday, converting eight of them into trophies. Immediately behind him in a tie for second are Harris English, who has two victories and rookie Scottie Scheffler, who’s still in search of his maiden title.

Dustin Johnson in Complete Control
Simply put, it would absolutely stunning for Dustin Johnson to meltdown from his five-stroke edge after he backed up a career low round of 60 on Friday with a scintillating 64 on Saturday. Unsurprisingly, he’s first in strokes gained approaching the green, tee-to-green, greens in regulation, driving distance and he’s first with a whopping four eagles this week.

Considering the three guys directly behind him have combined for just three PGA Tour victories (albeit Louis Oosthuizen has won a lot around the world), you’d be hard pressed to see DJ not having a cakewalk victory on Sunday, even though two weeks ago he kicked away the PGA Championship.

There is one glimmer of hope for those chasing the 21-time tour champion. At the 2017 WGC-HSBC Champions, Johnson entered the final round with a six shot lead, only to close with a disastrous 77 to hand the title to Justin Rose.
It would be stunning to see him do it again, and since you’re getting zero value at him at -550, you’re probably better off chalking this one up in the loss column unless you grabbed him at +2200 to start the week.

Best Live Value Picks at The Northern Trust
- Scottie Scheffler (+1300): Second tee-to-green and third in SG: off-the-tee this week, Scheffler is first in birdies at this event and has proved he can go crazy low here with a 59 on Friday. Played with DJ in the final group at the PGA two weeks ago before finishing T-4th. Leads all rookies with five top-10’s this season.
- Louis Oosthuizen (+4100): The 2010 Open Champion held the 54-hold lead on this course in 2012. Third in scrambling and fifth in putting this week, Oosthuizen might be better served attacking a victory as opposed to trying to hang onto one. He’s been a runner-up in all four majors, the Players Championship and the WGC-Match Play final. Way overdue for his first victory in the States.
- Daniel Berger (+5000): Leads the tour in strokes gained since the hiatus. Posted a win at the Charles Schwab Challenge and T-2nd and T-3rd results since June. Six top-10’s in last eight events. T-2nd in final round scoring average on the campaign.
